Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
