A man who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two boys both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on recently.
Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.
She said his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he ran.
The man played a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She said the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were located, and his stepson notified the police about his worries.
She stated Ruben went on to conduct the "treat game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.
The prosecutor explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson called the law enforcement once more.
She stated the man then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five children.
