From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the party enter places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.
